The fastest growing form of racing in the country
WELCOME TO B-SPEC
Created and maintained by Grass Paddock Motorsports
B-Spec is the fastest growing amateur road race class in the country
Starting in 2024 the B-Spec class is proud to
be using a Goodyear Spec Tire
WHO ARE WE?
And what is a B-Spec?
Let's answer the second question first. B-Spec is a class of road racing using cars from the B-Segment (ie subcompacts). We have a strict set of rules that allow limited performance modifications to hold costs down and we use weight and restrictor plates to ensure balanced competition. A B-Spec car can be built for $10-15,000 including the cost of the donor. See our blog for build info.
B-Spec is about more than just the race cars, the class has arguably the most helpful and best group of racers in amateur road racing. Our current drivers can help you with everything from your driver's school and licensing questions, to hints and tricks on your racecar build. And we do it all for free. Why? Because to a driver, we believe in this class. So please share this link as the #1 place on line for B-Spec resources.

THE SCCA
The SCCA (click here) sanctions B-Spec racing around the country, and maintains the set of standardized rules in the GCR (General Competition Rules). Other sanctioning bodies like Lucky Dog Racing have recently added specific B-Spec classes as well. B-Spec cars may also run in the Improved Touring B-Class (ITB), and several drivers have taken their cars into H Production with some success, even though they offer mid pack performance due to the limited modifications.

THE MINIS OF B-SPEC
The Mini Cooper is the most popular car in the class and comes in 3 varieties. The R50 Model is new to the class for 2021. The R56 has a early and late version which run slightly different specifications. MINIUSA also offers a contingency program.
THE TOYOTAS OF B-SPEC
The most underrated car in class is probably the Toyota Yaris. Only two cars currently exist but they can often be found at or near the front of a race. How about someone build some more? Toyota also offers a pretty good contingency program.
THE MAZDAS OF B-SPEC
The Mazda 2 is the second most popular car in class. With the best contingency program, Mazda continues to support B-Spec racers with specialized parts to make their Mazda 2s competitive. The Mazda 2 is lighter weight than many of the cars in the class and therefore excels on tighter, twisty tracks.
THE HONDAS OF B-SPEC
Honda Fits are the 3rd most popular car in class and come in 3 varieties; 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations. The 1st generation Fits have been added effective 2022 and offer an economical way to enter the class. The 2nd Gen run at a lighter weight and without restrictor while the 3rd Gen run a restrictor to equalize performance.
THE FORDS AND KIAS OF B-SPEC
The Ford Fiesta is the 4th most popular car in class and the Kia Rio is a more rare sight at the track. What is interesting about these two cars is that both hatchback and sedans can be raced.
THE CHEVYS AND FIATS OF B-SPEC
The Chevrolet Sonic is a popular car in class and has the largest engine, but a restrictor brings it back into alignment with the other cars. It too can be run in both hatchback and sedan body styles. The Fiat 500 is technically an A-Segment car, but several drivers have had some success through the years with the smallest engine in class. That small size and weight make it a great option on tight tracks.

WHY B-SPEC?
-
PASSION - The B Spec community at the track is replicated in our Facebook group. Competitors paddock together, share tips, more experienced members help novices and stories of drivers giving support and tires to those in need are legendary.
-
GROWTH - The passion and support is combined with a strategic plan to increase participation #Drivefor30in19, became #40in20, and #51in21. Since 2017, B Spec is the fastest growing class at the Runoffs, with an amazing 300% INCREASE in entries.
-
AFFORDABLE The growth is also due to the affordability. A competitive car can be built or purchased for between $10-15,000. This makes it the IDEAL class for beginners.
-
EQUITABLE No other class of racing has the number of different brands that are COMPETITIVE and the level of affordable equality in the rules. Generally, in racing, there is ONE car that is the one to have if you want to win. On any given weekend, anyone can win, and has.
